I don’t mind. Far from corny, that is a mythic pattern. As Silas Marner slowly transforms into a spiderlike form at his loom, so modern heroes and anti-heroes suddenly manifest externally what was slowly developing internally for many years, triggered by radiation, genetic engineering, or other poorly understood agents of change.
