Please tell me you aren’t going into politics. That particular topic is a minefield of stupid, nearly always driven by ridiculous misunderstandings of the actual laws in question (more from one side than the other, but not by a huge amount).
For just the most obvious and directly related example, he just accosted them, not the other way around, so unless that particular state also has a fairly robust Castle Doctrine (and unrealistically generous, as that lab is certainly not his home), he wouldn’t get a Stand Your Ground defense if he were to shoot them. At this point, that would even be true if they pulled weapons on him!
Since they are not legally there, they wouldn’t get one, either, of course. In most regards, this situation would be unchanged by Stand Your Ground laws. A guy like him (who abuses the CRAP out of the law) would know that.
