Here’s what’s (not) happening in May

I was hoping to share a bunch of announcements for you in May, but life decided it had other ideas. Instead, here’s what I’m in the middle of…

My never-ending office remodel

The remodeling of my studio office was supposed to take a weekend or two. It’s been a month and it’s only a third done. One reason is that the windows were PAINTED SHUT. Who does that? It took a long time to get them all working. Hammers, sand paper, and chisels were all involved.

The office is a pale lemon yellow and white, and had no over head light. Lots of natural light but useless in the evening. Blinding desk lamps were my temp fix until I wired up the ceiling light. I didn’t put in a switch, Alexa turn it on an off. Art was lost on the bland walls so I wanted it darker so they’d stand out. Not shown are the black and red book cases behind me filled with inventory and geeky stuff.

BEFORE:

What else happened

I was given ownership/leadership of the Collective of Heroes.  This meant taking over the website and setting it up on my servers. Should have taken a day. 2 weeks later it’s still not up.

Project in the works

Long overdue to complete is my next illustrated book. It’s about 75% done, but it’s been that way for 2 months. Angella has turned in all of the art, and I’ve lettered the book, but there’s a review process between us, some pages to alter, all the front and back matter, the final cover (this is a test cover and not final), and of course publishing it.

Other projects on hold

That’s Odin on the left. The Corgi of Corgi Press. He’s shocked at my lack of progress.

  • My graphic novel of horror short stories about a monster for hire. I have artists wanting to start, but I’m no ready.
  • Publishing the last Our Super Mom trade. I’m going to take a long time on this as I want to make a push to get it into libraries and that takes a lot more steps than just making the book. I’m also considering a Kickstarter to release a 12 issue omnibus of the whole series – in color.
  • My fantasy novel/series I started writing last fall that I shelved because of day job issues. This I’m itching to get back too. It’s a world where science is witchcraft and witchcraft is science. It’s also a spoke world with 12 realms connected by a central portal. I’ll be looking for beta readers as I finish the second draft of each chapter. First drafts of chapters 1-3 are done.

My Top Ten Live Action Super Hero TV Shows:

I love that there are now so many shows I could could do a top 30 list and still not hit the bad ones.
  1. Jessica Jones
  2. The Tick (New one with Danger Boat)
  3. The Punisher
  4. The Gifted (Fox movies? This is how you do the X-Men)
  5. Legion (So trippy and unpredictable)
  6. Powers (First season villain was the best villain ever)
  7. Super Girl (The only CW show in the list, but they all could count as one)
  8. The Hulk (Bill Bixby rules)
  9. Batman (67 Batman, year I was born)
  10. Agents of SHEILD (It has moments of greatness)
